Set Free (Liberado)

Here's a little fictional piece I've written based on the events of Acts 16. I hope you enjoy it. =)

        Set Free by Prisoners

Until recently, I was the chief jailer at Philippi, but I didn’t realize I was also a prisoner - a prisoner of sin. 

Then a dramatic event changed my life forever. 

The town leaders brought two men, Paul and Silas, to jail and warned me to watch them carefully. I took every precaution to prevent their escape, even fastening them in stocks in an inner cell.

Late that night I heard singing. It was coming from the prison, but I couldn’t understand why. 

Suddenly the earth began to shake! I was knocked to the floor. I felt pieces of the roof falling on me. 

Then I thought of the jail! What if the walls had crumbled and the prisoners escaped? 

I rushed outside but could see nothing in the darkness. There was nothing I could do. I drew my sword to end my life quickly instead of suffering the wrath and disgrace I would receive. 

Just as I was about to plunge the sword into my chest, I heard a voice. “Do not harm yourself! We are all here.” 

Could it be true? I called for lights and rushed in. I was amazed! All the prisoners were still in the jail. 

The man who had spoken was Paul. I fell at his feet as I realized he was no ordinary man. He had the favor of a powerful God. 

“Sir, what must I do to be saved?” I knew he could tell me the truth my soul longed for. 

His answer was simple. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” 

At that moment I believed! My family also believed, and we were all baptized that very night. 

Paul and Silas were officially released the next day. They encouraged us to tell others about Jesus, then they moved on to other towns to continue sharing the good news. 

I am no longer the jailer in Philippi. Instead of putting people in prison, I now reach out to those who are prisoners of sin. I tell them the good news about Jesus, and I rejoice as He sets their souls free.

He aquí una pequeña pieza de ficción que escribí basada en los eventos de Hechos 16. Confío en que les guste. =)

        Liberado por prisioneros

Hasta hace poco yo era el carcelero jefe en Filipo, pero no me daba cuenta de que yo también era prisionero – prisionero del pecado.

Entonces, un dramático evento cambió mi vida para siempre.

Los líderes de la ciudad trajeron a la cárcel a dos hombres, Pablo y Silas, y me advirtieron que los vigilara cuidadosamente. Tomé todas las precauciones para evitar que escaparan, incluso los puse en cepos en una celda interior.

Esa noche, tarde, escuché cantos. Venían de la prisión, pero no entendía por qué.

De repente, ¡La tierra comenzó a temblar! Caí al piso. Sentí que caían pedazos del techo sobre mí.

¡Entonces pensé en la cárcel! ¿Qué iba a pasar si las paredes se habían caído y los prisioneros habían escapado?

Salí corriendo pero no pude ver nada en la oscuridad. No había nada que pudiera hacer. Saqué mi espada para terminar con mi vida rápidamente en lugar de sufrir la ira y desgracia que recibiría.

Cuando estaba a punto de hundir la espada en mi pecho, escuché una voz. “¡No te hagas daño! Todos estamos aquí.”

¿Podía ser cierto? Pedí luces y corrí adentro. ¡Quedé atónito! Todos los prisioneros estaban todavía en la cárcel.

El hombre que había hablado era Pablo. Caí a sus pies al darme cuenta que no era un hombre común y corriente. Tenía el favor de un Dios poderoso.

“Señor, ¿Qué debo hacer para ser salvo?” Sabía que él podía decirme la verdad que mi alma anhelaba.

Su respuesta fue sencilla. “Cree en el Señor Jesucristo y serás salvo.”

¡En ese momento creí! Mi familia también creyó y todos fuimos bautizados esa misma noche.

Pablo y Silas fueron liberados oficialmente al día siguiente. Nos animaron a hablar a otros acerca de Jesús; luego, se fueron a otras ciudades para continuar compartiendo esta buena noticia.

Yo ya no soy el carcelero en Filipo. En lugar de poner a la gente en la cárcel, ahora trato de alcanzar a aquellos que son prisioneros del pecado. Les cuento la buena noticia acerca de Jesús, y me gozo cuando Él libera sus almas.
