See The Beauty (Ver La Belleza)

Lately I've been thinking about the woman who anointed Jesus with expensive perfume. 

Jesus said she did "a beautiful thing" to Him (Mark 14:6). Yet I wonder if anyone else besides the woman or Jesus saw her act as a beautiful thing? 

We know that some of the people present were critical of her (Mark 14:4-5). They even rebuked her harshly. 

Perhaps some simply thought her foolish. 

Maybe there were one or two who recognized the beauty in her gesture, but who felt envious, thinking "why didn't I think of that first?" 

Jesus commended the woman for her extravagant offering of love. But no one else did. Not even the disciples--who also loved Jesus. 

Why is that? 

Well, I must admit I'm not much different. I believe we each have a special offering to bring to God, our own unique expressions of love for Him. Yet too often I'm critical of others or I compare myself to them.

Instead I want to learn to simply appreciate the beauty of others' offerings to God. 

I want to rejoice that they love Jesus! 

I want to worship God for what He is doing through them. 

I don't think the woman in Mark 14 was terribly upset by the reaction of the people. She had eyes only for Jesus. But they were the ones who missed out. They didn't see the beauty that was right before them. I don't want to be like that. 

Lord Jesus, help us rejoice every time we see someone expressing their love to you. And may we not think of ourselves, but think only of you and how worthy you are of our worship! Amen.

Ver La Belleza

Últimamente he estado pensando acerca de la mujer que ungió a Jesús con perfume costoso.

Jesús dijo que ella le hizo una “buena obra” (Mr. 14:6). Sin embargo, me pregunto si alguien, además de la mujer o Jesús, vio su acto como una buena obra.

Sabemos que algunos de los presentes la criticaron (Mr. 14:4-5). Incluso la reprendieron duramente.

Quizás algunos sencillamente pensaron que era necia.

Tal vez hubo uno o dos que reconocieron la belleza de su gesto, pero se sintieron envidiosos, pensando “¿por qué no lo pensé primero?”

Jesús elogió a la mujer por su extravagante ofrenda de amor. Pero nadie más lo hizo. Ni siquiera los discípulos – quienes también amaban a Jesús.

¿Por qué es eso?

Bueno, tengo que admitir que yo no soy muy diferente. Creo que cada uno tenemos una ofrenda especial que traerle a Dios, nuestras propias y únicas expresiones de amor por Él. Sin embargo, con demasiada frecuencia critico a otros o me comparo con ellos.

En lugar de eso quiero aprender a apreciar sencillamente la belleza de las ofrendas de otros a Dios.

¡Quiero regocijarme porque aman a Jesús!

Quiero adorar a Dios por lo que está haciendo a través de ellos.

No creo que la mujer de Marcos 14 haya estado terriblemente molesta por la reacción de la gente. Ella solamente tenía ojos para Jesús. Pero ellos fueron los que perdieron. Ellos no vieron la belleza que estaba justo delante de ellos. Yo no quiero ser así.

Señor Jesús, Ayúdanos a regocijarnos cada vez que vemos a alguien expresando su amor por ti. Y que no pensemos en nosotros mismos, sino que pensemos solamente en ti y en ¡cuán digno eres de tener nuestra adoración! Amén
