Visual Reminders (Recordatorios Visuales)

When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he exclaimed, “Ah, Sovereign LORD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!”

But the LORD said to him, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”

So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD Is Peace. To this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. -Judges 6:22-24

Gideon had a dramatic encounter with God. Afterwards he built an altar as a visual reminder. Whenever he looked at it in the future, Gideon would remember his experience with God and the comforting truth that "the LORD is Peace." 

There are many other stories in the Old Testament about people who built altars or set up stones as visual reminders of their encounters with God. 

In our world today, we're so bombarded with media, busyness, and all kinds of "noise," that we often rush through each moment. We rarely stop to be still and remember who God is and what He has done for us. 

Perhaps it would help if we learned to use visual reminders as well. Almost anything can work if it causes us to think of God and what He has done--such as a photo, a decoration, a piece of furniture, etc. 

After enduring eight and a half long years of my health trial, God gave me a wonderful visual reminder. I planted a rosebush in our back yard. To me it's not just a plant. It's an "altar" that reminds me of this profound truth - my God brings beauty from thorns.

I'm so glad He does!

Recordatorios Visuales

Cuando Gedeón se dio cuenta de que se trataba del ángel del Señor,  exclamó: ¡Ay de mí, Señor y Dios! ¡He visto al ángel del Señor cara a cara!

Pero el Señor le dijo: ¡Quédate tranquilo! No temas. No vas a morir.

Entonces Gedeón construyó allí un altar al Señor,  y lo llamó  "El Señor es la paz",  el cual hasta el día de hoy se encuentra en Ofra de Abiezer. -Jueces 6:22-24

Gedeón tuvo un encuentro dramático con Dios. Después construyó un altar como recordatorio visual. Todas las veces que lo mirara en el futuro, recordaría su experiencia con Dios y la verdad consoladora que “el SEÑOR es la Paz.”

Hay muchas otras historias en el Antiguo Testamento de personas que construyeron altares o levantaron piedras como recordatorios visuales de sus encuentros con Dios.

En nuestro mundo de hoy, estamos tan bombardeados por los medios de comunicación, las ocupaciones y toda clase de “ruidos”, que a menudo nos apresuramos a través de cada momento. Muy rara vez nos detenemos y recordamos quien es Dios y lo que Él ha hecho por nosotros.

Tal vez nos ayudaría si aprendiéramos a usar recordatorios visuales también. Casi cualquier cosa puede servir si nos hace pensar en Dios y lo que Él ha hecho - como una foto, un adorno, un mueble, etc.

Después de soportar ocho años y medio de mi prueba de salud, Dios me dio un maravilloso recordatorio visual. Planté un rosal en nuestro jardín. Para mí no es simplemente una planta. Es un “altar” que me recuerda esta profunda verdad – mi Dios saca belleza de entre las espinas.
