Yet in the middle of his book, we find two chapters with an amazingly positive message. After all the times Jeremiah warned Israel about their sin and God's judgement, in chapters 30-31 God gave Jeremiah a message of hope:
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will bring my people Israel and Judah back from captivity and restore them to the land I gave their forefathers to possess," says the LORD. -Jeremiah 30:3
Though the nation of Israel had done nothing to deserve God's mercy, God gave them this promise of restoration.
As I read these two chapters, I'm overwhelmed by the gracious promises of God:
"I am with you and will save you," declares the LORD. -Jer. 30:11a
"But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds," declares the LORD, -Jer. 30:17a
I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt, O Virgin Israel. Again you will take up your tambourines and go out to dance with the joyful. -Jer. 31:4
Then maidens will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. -Jer. 31:13
"I will satisfy the priests with abundance and my people will be filled with my bounty," declares the LORD. -Jer. 31:14
I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. -Jer. 31:25
"So there is hope for your future," declares the LORD. -Jer. 31:17a
Wow! What incredible promises!
While these words were written specifically to the nation of Israel, I find great comfort in knowing that our God doesn't change. This is still His heart toward all His people - a heart of love, compassion, mercy, kindness and grace.
I know what it's like to live through a season of "captivity." But the Lord continues to show me the many ways He is the same today as He was in Jeremiah's day.
He still saves.
He still heals.
He still restores.
He still rebuilds.
He still gives joy.
He still satisfies.
He still gives HOPE for the future!
He doesn't always work in the way or the time we expect or ask. But His character hasn't changed.
He is still the God of Restoration.

El Dios De Restauración
Con frecuencia, Jeremías es llamado el “profeta llorón” – y por una buena razón. No solamente experimentó dificultad, sufrimiento y persecución personal, sino que vivió la tragedia de que su pueblo rechazara a Dios y fuera llevado a la cautividad.
Sin embargo, en medio de su libro, encontramos dos capítulos con un mensaje maravillosamente positivo. Después de todas las veces que Jeremías advirtió a Israel acerca de su pecado y el juicio de Dios, en los capítulos 30 y 31 Dios le dio un mensaje de esperanza:
Porque he aquí que vienen días, dice Jehová, en que haré volver a los cautivos de mi pueblo Israel y Judá, ha dicho Jehová, y los traeré a la tierra que di a sus padres, y la disfrutarán. -Jeremías 30:3
Aunque la nación de Israel no había hecho nada para merecer la misericordia de Dios, Él les dio esta promesa de restauración.
Leyendo estos dos capítulos, me siento abrumada por las promesas de Dios llenas de gracia.
Porque yo estoy contigo para salvarte, dice Jehová –Je. 30:11a
Pero yo te restauraré y sanaré tus heridas—afirma el Señor—. -Je. 30:17a
oh virginal Israel. Te edificaré de nuevo; ¡sí, serás reedificada! De nuevo tomarás panderetas y saldrás a bailar con alegría. -Je. 31:4
Entonces las jóvenes danzarán con alegría, y los jóvenes junto con los ancianos. Convertiré su duelo en gozo, y los consolaré; transformaré su dolor en alegría. -Je. 31:13
Colmaré de abundancia a los sacerdotes, y saciaré con mis bienes a mi pueblo, afirma el Señor. -Je. 31:14
Daré de beber a los sedientos y saciaré a los que estén agotados. -Je. 31:25
Se vislumbra esperanza en tu futuro: tus hijos volverán a su patria—afirma el Señor—. -Je. 31:17
¡Qué increíbles promesas!
Aunque estas palabras fueron escritas específicamente a la nación de Israel, encuentro gran consuelo en saber que nuestro Dios no cambia. Éste es aún Su corazón hacia Su gente – un corazón de amor, compasión, misericordia, bondad y gracia.
Yo sé lo que es atravesar una temporada de “cautividad.” Pero el Señor sigue mostrándome las muchas maneras en que Él es el mismo hoy como fue en los días de Jeremías.
Todavía salva.
Todavía cura.
Todavía restaura.
Todavía reconstruye.
Todavía da gozo.
Todavía satisface.
¡Todavía da esperanza para el futuro!
No siempre obra en la manera o el tiempo que esperamos o pedimos. Pero su carácter no ha cambiado.
Él todavía es el Dios de Restauración.
