In John 6 the Jews asked Jesus, What must we do to do the works God requires? (v.28)
Jesus replied very simply, The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent. (v. 29)
Can you believe it? (pun intended) The only "work" God tells us to do is to believe in Jesus.
This is so simple that I think sometimes we relegate it to only being about salvation. Obviously we can't save ourselves; no works or good deeds will pay our sin debt to God. Instead, we believe in Jesus and receive His gift of salvation. But what about the rest of our life?
Is it possible that all of our challenges, questions and struggles somehow come back to this - "believe in Jesus"?
I think it's possible, even likely.
What we truly believe in our minds and hearts affects every area of life - how we think, how we act, what we do and don't do, what we long for and desire....
Maybe we need to remind ourselves of what we actually believe.
I believe in Jesus...
...that He is God's eternal, beloved Son
...that He and the Father and Holy Spirit are in perfect unity in all things
...that the Trinity lovingly planned salvation for sinful, needy people
...that Jesus willingly left heaven's glory to come to earth
...that He experienced all the difficulties of life in this fallen world
...that He lived a perfect, sinless life filled with grace and truth
...that He chose to die on the cross as the payment for my sin
...that His perfect sacrifice on my behalf was accepted by God
...that He delivered me from condemnation and the curse of the law and sin
...that He rose again on the third day conquering death!
...that He showed Himself to many people and commissioned His followers to tell the world about Him
...that He returned to heaven victorious and glorious
...that He sits at God's right hand where He intercedes for me
...that He gave me His own perfect righteousness as a gift
...that He pours on me all the blessings He deserves
...that He lives in me through His Spirit
...that He loves me with an everlasting love
...that He calls me by name and reveals Himself to me
...that He has good plans for me
...that He works all things in my life for good
...that He blesses other people through me
...that He can do abundantly beyond what I can ask or think
...that He is preparing a glorious home for me in heaven
...that He will return one day to make everything right and rule in glory
...that He is the perfect satisfaction for my soul's desires...
and so much more.
Yes, this is what I believe!
Just thinking of all these things brings tears to my eyes.
Oh Jesus, what a beautiful, wonderful Savior you are! I believe in You, and you are everything I need for this life and eternity.
Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with and inexpressible and glorious joy (1 Peter 1:8).

En Juan 6 los judíos le preguntaron a Jesús: ¿Qué tenemos que hacer para realizar las obras que Dios exige? (v. 28)
Jesús respondió muy sencillamente, Ésta es la obra de Dios: que crean en aquel a quien él envió. (v. 29)
¿Puedes creerlo? (es un juego de palabras) La única “obra” que Dios nos dice que hagamos es creer en Jesús.
Esto es tan sencillo que pienso que a veces lo limitamos a solamente la salvación. Obviamente no podemos salvarnos a nosotros mismos; ni obras ni buenas acciones pagarán a Dios nuestra deuda de pecado. En lugar de eso, creemos en Jesús y recibimos Su regalo de salvación. Pero, ¿qué del resto de nuestra vida?
¿Es posible que todos nuestros desafíos, preguntas y dificultades de alguna manera regresen a esta –“creencia en Jesús”?
Creo que es posible, incluso probable.
Lo que creemos verdaderamente en nuestra mente y corazón afecta cada área de nuestra vida – como pensamos, como actuamos, lo que hacemos y no hacemos, lo que anhelamos y deseamos…
Quizá necesitamos recordarnos a nosotros mismos lo que realmente creemos.
Yo creo en Jesús…
… que Él es el eterno, amado Hijo de Dios
… que Él, el Padre y el Espíritu Santo están en perfecta unidad en todas las cosas
… que la Trinidad planeó amorosamente la salvación para gente pecadora, necesitada
… que Jesús dejó voluntariamente la gloria del cielo para venir a la tierra
… que experimentó todas las dificultades de la vida en este mundo caído
… que vivió una vida perfecta, sin pecado, llena de gracia y verdad
… que escogió morir en la cruz como pago por mi pecado
… que Su sacrificio perfecto a mi favor fue aceptado por Dios
… que me libró de la condenación y la maldición de la ley el pecado
… ¡que resucitó al tercer día conquistando la muerte!
… que se mostró ante mucha gente y comisionó a Sus seguidores para contarle al mundo acerca de Él
… que regresó al cielo victorioso y glorioso
… que está sentado a la diestra de Dios donde intercede por mí
… que me dio su propia justicia perfecta como regalo
… que derrama sobre mí todas las bendiciones que Él merece
… que vive en mí a través de Su Espíritu
… que me ama con amor eterno
… que me llama por mi nombre y se revela ante mí
… que tiene buenos planes para mí
… que obra todas las cosas en mi vida para bien
… que bendice a otras personas a través de mí
… que puede hacer abundantemente más allá de lo que yo pueda pedir o pensar
… que está preparando una mansión gloriosa para mí en el cielo
… que regresará un día para arreglar todo y gobernar en gloria
… que es la satisfacción perfecta para los deseos de mi alma…
y muchas cosas más.
Sí, ¡esto es lo que yo creo!
Sólo pensar en estas cosas hace asomar lágrimas a mis ojos.
Oh Jesús, ¡qué hermoso, maravilloso Salvador eres! Creo en ti. Y eres todo lo que necesito para esta vida y la eternidad.
Ustedes lo aman a pesar de no haberlo visto; y aunque no lo ven ahora, creen en él y se alegran con un gozo indescriptible y glorioso (1 Pedro 1:8).
