I read something recently that just stopped me in my tracks. I've been thinking about it ever since.
"Being loved sets a person free to do whatever it is he or she was born to do." (Nancy Kennedy)
Wow! There's a lot of meaning packed in that little sentence.
Have you ever watched an athlete, a performer or even a friend doing something amazing, and you said to yourself, "They were born to do that!"?
I have. I've often admired people who accomplish extraordinary things. And I've thought about how much hard work, sacrifice, perseverance and commitment was behind their achievements. But it never occurred to me that there might be something missing from that list. Something even more powerful than those things, valuable as they are.
It's Love.
Love is even more powerful than those great qualities I listed. And Love comes from God. So I think Nancy Kennedy has expressed a beautiful concept that we all need to grasp.
I've been analyzing her statement and breaking it down into small pieces.
"born to do" - There is something I was born to do. There is some special contribution to human history that God planned for me (and for you) when He knit me together in my mother's womb (Psalm 139:13-16). I am the only "me" that will ever be. And as a follower of Jesus, I have been created for specific good works, things God prepared specially for me to do (Eph. 2:10).
"sets a person free" - There are many obstacles, difficulties, setbacks and hindrances that try to keep us from doing what we were born to do. They could be any number of things: fears, insecurity, past wounds, past mistakes, wrong beliefs about myself, lack of courage, etc, etc. These are things we need to be set free from. (Psalm 119:32)
"Being loved" - First of all, do I know that I am loved? Do I remember that the God of the universe loved me so much that He became a man and died in my place, taking the death my sins deserved? There is NO greater LOVE than that! (John 3:16)
Then, do I believe that I am loved? Not just know it as a fact, but believe with all my heart that it is true - I AM LOVED! (Jeremiah 31:3)
And finally, do I practice receiving that love? Do I open my arms to God every day and say "Thank you for loving me!"? Do I live with a conscious knowledge and wonder that my heavenly Father delights in me? That Jesus enjoys my company? That the Holy Spirit has made a home in me? (John 14:16-23)
"Being loved" is for us a verb. It means we know, we believe and we embrace the love God has for us. God does love us, but we need to participate in the process of "being loved."
"Being loved" is what sets us free from the hindrances, so that we can move forward with things like perseverance, sacrifice, commitment, etc.
"Being loved" is the motive behind every good thing we do. As we live in this indescribable love, we want it to flow through us to others.
So, do you know what you were "born to do"?
For myself, I'm still not sure. But I think the secret to both discovering and accomplishing it is in continually "being loved" by my perfect heavenly Father. As I understand and experience more of His love, it transforms me from the inside out. It frees me. It empowers me. And ultimately, I believe it will lead me to the very thing I was born to do.

Hace poco leí algo que sencillamente me detuvo en mi camino. Desde entonces he estado pensando en eso.
“Ser amada libera a una persona para hacer lo que sea que nació para hacer.” (Nancy Kennedy)
¡Oohh! Hay mucho significado empacado en esa pequeña oración.
¿Alguna vez has visto un atleta, un actor o hasta un amigo haciendo algo asombroso y has dicho para ti mismo: “¡Nació para hacer eso!”?
Yo lo he hecho. Siempre he admirado a la gente que logra cosas extraordinarias. Y he pensado en cuanto trabajo duro, sacrificio, perseverancia y compromiso hubo detrás de sus logros. Pero nunca se me ocurrió que algo podría estar faltando en esa lista. Algo aun más poderoso que todas esas cosas, valiosas como son.
Es amor.
El amor es aun más poderoso que todas esas grandes cualidades que enumeré. Y el amor viene de Dios. Así que pienso que Nancy Kennedy ha expresado un hermoso concepto que todos necesitamos agarrar.
He estado analizando su declaración y partiéndola en trozos pequeños.
“nacido para hacer” –Hay algo que nací para hacer. Hay alguna contribución especial a la historia humana que Dios planeó para mí (y para ti) cuando me tejió en el vientre de mi madre (Salmo 139:13-16). Y yo soy la única “yo” que jamás habrá. Y como seguidora de Jesús, he sido creada para buenas obras específicas, cosas que Dios preparó especialmente para que yo las haga (Ef. 2:10).
“libera a una persona” – Hay muchos obstáculos, dificultades, retrocesos e impedimentos que tratan de evitar que hagamos lo que nacimos para hacer. Podrían ser un número indefinido de cosas: temores, inseguridades, heridas pasadas, errores pasados, falsas creencias acerca de mi misma, falta de valor, etc., etc. Estas son cosas de las que necesitamos ser liberados. (Salmo 119:32)
“Ser amada” – Primero que todo, ¿sé que soy amada? ¿Recuerdo que el Dios del universo me amó tanto que se convirtió en hombre y murió en mi lugar, tomando la muerte que merecían mis pecados? ¡NO hay AMOR más grande que ése! (Jn. 3:16)
Luego, ¿creo que soy amada? No sólo saberlo como un hecho, pero creer con todo mi corazón que es cierto - ¡SOY AMADA! (Jer. 31:3)
Y finalmente, ¿practico recibir ese amor? ¿Abro mis brazos a Dios cada día y digo “¡Gracias por amarme!”? ¿Vivo con un conocimiento consciente y me maravillo porque mi Padre celestial se deleita en mí? ¿Qué Jesús disfruta mi compañía? ¿Qué el Espíritu Santo ha hecho su morada en mí? (Jn. 14:16-23)
“Ser amado” es para nosotros un verbo. Significa que sabemos, creemos y abrazamos el amor que Dios tiene para nosotros. Dios sí nos ama, pero necesitamos participar en el proceso de “ser amados.”
“Ser amados” es lo que nos libera de los impedimentos, para que podamos seguir adelante con cosas como perseverancia, sacrificio, compromiso, etc.
“Ser amado” es el motivo detrás de cada cosa buena que hacemos, mientras vivimos en este amor indescriptible, queremos que fluya a través de nosotros hacia otros.
Entonces, ¿sabes “para hacer qué naciste”?
En cuanto a mí misma, Todavía no estoy segura. Pero creo que el secreto tanto para descubrirlo como para lograrlo está en “ser amada” continuamente por mi perfecto Padre celestial. Mientras entiendo y experimento más de Su amor, me transforma de adentro hacia afuera. Me libera. Me da poder. Y finalmente, me llevará a la cosa misma que nací para hacer.
